First Maidens Avatar Submission to Dream-Maidens!

Everyone,

In a recent post, I stated that I didn't receive any submissions from the Maidens Avatar Creator Game. Well on December 27th, 2010 I checked my email and low and behold someone submitted! I was really excited because I thought that no one really cared about emailing and stuff (the email address I gave is really my email address. I don't spam, but I will always respond).

I decided that when I got enough submissions, I would create a page on the website that would show them. Since I have only one at the moment, I'll post them in the blog. But fret not, I will add a page to the site in the near future (like very soon).

Thanks so much Heather for submitting your creation!

So if you've saved your character from the Maidens Avatar Creator game on the computer, please email it to dreammaidensmail@gmail.com!

Top 20 KeyeskeKara Games of the Year 2010 Part 1

Even though we have been around for over 3 years, we have never picked on the best games that were played the most this year. Everyone has their favorites, so we sought out to our stats (yes they are hidden) and picked the top 20 games that had the most plays this year.

So here we go! We are starting from 20 - 15.

#20 Laquan's Cake Decorator

Click to Play

Laquan's Cake Decorator was one of our first food decorating games that we released, with lots of toppings and even text to go over top of the cake slice.

#19 Sista Gunner Episode 2

Click to Play

This game was pretty incomplete, as we tried to add something new the second time around, but we neglected the idea because it wasn't really what we were after. It is a playable game, shoot up zombies forever and ever until the character dies or your hand cramps up from tons of clicking, but the fun factor is still there.

#18 Shaquita's Bakery

Click to Play

Its no wonder that Shaquita's Bakery made the list. Its a fast paced, fun matching game where you match the cake style. You are given three chances to keep the game going, bonuses and things to click around for extra points. To this day I still get my play in on this game. Pretty fun! Check out Shaquita's facial expressions, they are silly.

#17 Rockin' with Hannah Montana

Click to Play

This game was part of our Hannah Montana Celebrity Makeover series. We added a bonus game to the makeover that also game some decent play to the game. Spin the wheel to earn tons of points, but watch our for the Bust because it slices your points in half!

#16 Sista Gunner Episode 1

Click to Play

Our first try at a shooter type of game. The dialogue is what makes this game pretty funny. We really had a story fully laid out, but we really couldn't set it all in motion, so we released this game with what we had and added a score. Even though its not the real version, it is playable and challenging.

#15 Shaquita's Halloween Cake Maker

Click to Play

Wow this game takes me back. It was the second cake game that we made. I was very green programming in actionscript at the time. I never thought that making a scary cake would attract a lot of views even when its not around Halloween. My favorite item in the game is the candycorn.

Stay tuned for 14 - 10

A Christmas Wish

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays Everyone!

Our Cat Jasmine with Creepy Green and Red Eyes

From both Keyeske and I, we would like to thank all the users for visiting our websites and playing our games. I did not notice that we reached our 3rd year mark. Its been a very busy year, with so many changes that we went through that one could not express how thankful I am to still be here, working on our games, the website and such. Sometimes I get the feeling that the visitors that we receive have this notion that we are bigger than two people, when we are actually a "mom and pop shop". We work on our websites and games fulltime at home, and we work very hard (no time constraints like 9-5, more like all day until whenever we sleep).

Its not easy, but we are doing what we love. Thanks to our fans that have been there from the beginning, and everyone for showing their support. Even though what you do may seem small (like playing a dressup game or reading the blog) it is a big thing to me. Its what keeps us going, and on rough nights, gets us through the day. I love making games for children, because that is where I feel that my heart is, and where I can really be myself. Children are very honest about things that they like and what they do not like, so when I see a young child smiling and laughing while they play our games, it is like the greatest feeling in the world to me, because I know that it is true, and sincere. When you are an adult, most of the time those feelings are compressed and hidden and very hard to acknowledge unless certain objects are in possession (money) or situations arise. So, I am very grateful.

If you would like to stop reading here you can.
Below are some of my personal thoughts...

I wish that children everywhere can play our games, and be able to decide if they would like to play them, but that is only a dream.

Due to other Webmasters, their reasons for not giving them this opportunity and our own reasons, we were unable to make that wish come true this whole entire year. It must be something that we are missing or not doing right, but I can't imagine what. We have tried linking back, adding games from other sites, sponsorships, cobranding our games with other websites, and still little to no views.

It is sad, but we will keep going and keep making games even if no one adds them to their websites, even if websites don't link to us, even if we have 1 person browsing our website, we will not give up.

At first I thought that it could have been the games that we developed, because it didn't look a certain way like Roiworld's sleek vector design, and the file sizes are bigger than 1 megabyte. I refuse to believe those things. I know that people love our games. We get tons of emails everyday from users telling us that they do. Maybe some webmasters are afraid that we will steal their traffic away, but I couldn't imagine how. We do not have thousands of games like most game portals, and truthfully I don't plan to.

With that said, I can understand why our Maidens Avatar Creator is getting swept under the rug. If a game is said to have weekly updates, to most it is not new, so if there is ever updates, no one would see it. So far there has been 3 updates from the original and the filesize is currently at 5.75mb (If it gets to 10mb, it will have to be a down loadable game):

62 plus 60 plus 43 equals 165 items! But, the item count is not important, Is it worth me to continue updating? If I was short on time, I would say no, but I love the DM Base, I love making clothes for it, so I will continue updating. I don't care if no one likes the game anymore, I still do. I have tons of bases that I saved to my computer. I don't expect anyone to like it as much as I would, but even I can be entertained by my own work. Can most people say that?

I wish for a lot of things, but it is up to me to make it come true. I have not thrown in the towel on this project, and even though I may whine about what we do not have, I can accept that we don't and continue to press on. I believe in miracles, and someday our games will get exposure to children that love to play games online. If it never happens, oh well, at least we did our best. That is what matters isn't it?

Its Christmas Eve, anyone still going to leave cookies and milk for Santa? I will... I hope he likes soymilk.

Maidens Avatar Creator 12/21/10 Update Postponed

Hello,

As you know another update was due for Maidens Avatar Creator. I will have to postpone the update because I was unable to work on adding the items yesterday. I had to take care of some things that took most of the day, and I appologize for that. I will try my best to update before Christmas Eve (Dec. 24th 2010).

I also had the opportunity to get some feedback on the Maidens Avatar Creator Game, and from what it looks like, children under 10 are able to play the game without difficulty. Which I am very pleased about.

Be on the lookout for the next update, and once again I appologize.

Remembering My Dog Chrono 1995 - 2010

It has took me a while to get myself together to post this video. He was put to rest around mid November due to complications (unable to walk, stopped eating, enlarged lymphoma, and completely out of it). He was a Lab Mix, and 15 years old. I was around him for 5 years and as a convert (never had animals before) he has taught me so much. If you do not have a dog or any kind of animal, it may be hard to understand, but Chrono was a determined dog and even though he is not here with us physically, he will be in our hearts forever.

Not long after (the Monday before Thanksgiving), someone gave us a puppy. She is adorable and sweet, but she is not a replacement. Some say we needed some healing time, but we couldn't dwell over our loss. I had a dream about Chrono the same day the puppy came, it was really strange because we didn't know when she would arrive. Her name is Marle. They are the names from the game Chrono Trigger.Ive never had a puppy before, but over the past month, it has been a great experience. I made a promise to give her as much love as I did Chrono (if not more).

I'll post some videos up of her as well in the future.

Getting Ready for a Christmas Concert

Are you involved in a holiday celebration? Nervous?

When I was in school, this was the best time of the year, because I loved being in Holiday concerts, shows, parties, etc.

I think I've had my fair share of goodies, even at age 25, I can still smile and remember most of them. I used to dance with a few dance groups, and we would go perform in different malls, halls, schools and churches. I was in marching bands as well. Of course I was nervous performing, who isn't? I always felt so excited at the same time that I couldn't stop. I always loved the costumes that I were performing in. The tights I had were nude color and shiny. I'm not one to like stockings because they are itchy and they never go on right. It seems like one leg goes on easy and the other leg gives such a hard time.

But anyways, performing during the Holidays are very fun. I also noticed that I love to panic before I perform. A lot of parents used to complain about the organization and planning of events that their child were involved in, but to me, as a child once ^_^ and still am, I loved things to be last minute and impromptu.

There were times I happened to bring my tap shoes in my book bag and end up dancing on the stage A Capella (dancing with no music). Or have a plain leotard and footless tights and do modern dance on the fly to any music that was played. Believe it or not, I was doing this all the way up until I stopped performing, and that was in college!

If you play an instrument and have the opportunity to play Christmas music in a concert, let me tell you, the pressure is intense. I know how it feels - your heart feels like its on the floor right before you get your air so that you can blow into that wind instrument, or tilt your head just right for the bow on the violin to vibrate the sound just right. Isn't it so exciting?!

If your nervous, just turn it into motivation to keep going. You can't get scared. When you get butterflies or get anxious that's a sign that you want to see it through. Besides, no one can tell you that you did terrible because you gave it your all and you attempted. That is what matters. Who cares what the audience says? They are just watching you from the sidelines and being entertained. They would probably fair worse than you if they were up on stage performing, so don't think that if you mess up on stage is horrible either. It happens, and its natural. The best thing to do is to pick yourself back up and ride the horse again. Always do your best!

How to Not Get Your Cellphone or Other Gadgets Confiscated in School

Disclaimer: This is for entertainment and satire of what I experienced in school. I do not recommend one to try to break school rules. Please follow the rules that are set for your classroom. I will not be responsible for students attempting to sneak doing things that they are not supposed to do. Follow at your own risk!

Isn't it crazy when a teacher takes a student's belongings because they aren't paying attention or they just see them using it?

When I was in 7th grade (that was in 1997), there was a virtual pet craze (tamagotchi, nano babies, digipets, etc.). Teachers would take them by the hotcakes. I don't think they are around anymore, but you had to view them frequently like you would a cellphone.

Not many people had cellphones when I was in the 7th grade, but I remember in senior year of high school, we had to turn our cellphones off. I was never caught but I always used.

I text in school (if there was good reception), ate food, played with toys, slept, doodled, played gameboy, listened to CDs, even passed many many notes. Never caught. Call me lucky.

So why am I posting this if we are not supposed to do it? Well sometimes students have good reasons to do these things, and sometimes they are flat out bored in class. I was an A student that was sometimes bored and needed to challenge myself from time to time, that is why I did it. Sometimes I would finish my work early and need something to do to past the time by. I was sometimes hungry, and because of my monthly period I would feel weak.

Most of the time when a student says that they are not feeling well and need to do certain things like eat, teachers would say you would have to provide a doctor's note. I didn't feel like going through so much if I could use great stealth to eat when I wanted to.

Here is what Big Sister Chykara did to not get caught:

When I was in the 5th grade, we would show off our die cast cars and wheel them around on our desk and play our gameboy. From time to time I would look up as if I was attentive and even pretend to scribble some things down and then continue playing.

In 6th grade, I would eat popcorn because my band class would have days we would watch movies. She allowed us to pop microwave popcorn and eat snacks. I would have popcorn left over, so I would continue eating in other classes throughout the day. You would think that the butter smell would fill the room, but the trick was for me to wait until the popcorn was cold. If the teacher smelled the butter, she/he would know first hand that it was in my book bag instead of me walking around with it in my hand.

*If I was chewing gum, I would slow down my chews so that they are not noticeable. I would flatten the gum to the side of my mouth, or at the top of my teeth, so if a teacher asked me to stick my tongue out, nothing would be there.

In 7th grade I had 3 nano babies to take care of. What I did was mute the sound on all of them, focus on one throughout the day, by pretending to go into my book bag to look for something, and lastly make sure all the stats (happiness, discipline and eating were all maxed out). If my nano babies went to the bathroom, I knew they would need to eat again, so I would do it all in one run. Another way I did this if I knew the teachers were on the lookout for confiscating stuff, I would change the time so that the nano babies would sleep during the day and up all night. I was pretty experienced with this because I could play and feed them while half sleep in the middle of the night.

When cellphones came around, it was pretty easy to turn the phone on silent and text. My first cellphone was a motorola v60 (old I know!) but it had a screen on the outside that would show a little animation to let me know if I missed a call, text etc.

All in all the basics here is to stay alert. You will have to be more alert than anyone else in the class, know what the teacher is talking about, pretend to be busy (ruffle papers around and pull items out of your book bag if you have to), get most of your classwork done, stay quiet, and most of all pretend to be the best student. Sometimes you don't need to do much to pretend, but you get the idea. My Spanish teacher in the 10th grade used to call on me every time she wanted to review what she just taught the class, and every time I was either passing a note to someone, eating, or playing footsies with a boy that I had liked at the time. I would answer the questions she asked me correctly and without a problem.

Of course doing these things have its drawbacks. I'm sure you already know what they are, and truthfully you have to weigh out the consequences (good and bad) yourself. I am just putting this up to give an idea that not all good students follow the practice of not breaking rules. I'll have some more good stuff to tell in later posts.

So stay good, and stay distracted!

Breakfast with Santa

When I was 8, (that was around 1993) I would go to the mall because they would have an event called "Breakfast with Santa". Well its wasn't technically breakfast with him, because we ate at the restaurant before we saw him, and well even then I still believed in Santa but I knew the guy at the mall was some man in costume. It would have been interesting though if I saw a man dressed up as Santa smashing down a pile of pancakes, getting bits of syrup all on his white beard, but a girl can laugh and dream in her mind haha!

Afterwards he would give us a bag full of candy and small toys and we would sing Christmas songs. It was pretty fun. I haven't been to a mall in about a year, so I don't really know if they still have events like that, but I am sure they have something. Do you have any memories of things you did/still do around the Holidays?

Setting Up and Running Secret Santa in School (Holiday Gift Exchage)

Big sister Chykara has another school memory. I remember most of my school memories, and so I figured I'd continue to share while I still can remember.

My first attempt at creating my own secret santa was in the 5th grade. I never told my teacher, because I thought she would say no. She was a pretty strict teacher that yelled a lot and her eyes bulged out. Very scary for a 5th grader. I had the nerve to have this same teacher for 2 years (4th and 5th). I was on good terms with her, and she never yelled at me before. So, I did it behind her back. Good students can get away with burnt toast I thought. I had my classmates write their names on a piece of paper, then I used my bookbag to shake up the names and while the teacher wasn't looking, or during lunch, I would have them dig for a name. It started around this time and it was set to exchange gifts with whoever they picked two days before we would go on Christmas Break. We had a little classroom Christmas Party.

Well everything was going pretty well, and it seemed like I wouldn't have any problems... until the day everyone was to give their gifts to the people they chose. Apparently one person forgot to bring in their gift, and the person who didn't get anything told the teacher, and she yelled "Who was in charge of this?!" and the whole class said my name. It was sooooooooooo embarrassing. The person who told the teacher thought the teacher was in charge of it. It was kind of a good thing and a bad thing at the same time. It must have been so well planned that they didn't think their classmate would run the idea, but sort of bad that I got in trouble haha!

The teacher didn't yell. Thank goodness for Christmas and for being a well know Good Student! I had a big heart even when I was little.

Edit: I gave my class a spending limit of $5. We were not high-rollers in money so asking parents for $5 and take us to the dollar store was the way to go.

Homework Over Christmas Break

You know,

Why do teachers give tons of homework over Christmas Break? They know we have so much stuff to play and lots of food to eat, that we would forget doing homework up until the last day before we go back. Here are some tips that I've came up with to avoid the "last-day-before-going-back-to-school-and-homework-isn't-done-chaos"

1. Setup a non-busy day (it could possibly be the last day of school before winter break, or a few days after Christmas but definitely before New Years Eve.

2. If possible, ask your teacher what they have planned for you to do over the winter break. That is why they keep planners. Some teachers love eager beavers and will tell you the assignments. Some might know what your trying to do and derail your early train but hey, you don't know until you ask.

3. Let your relatives know that you will be doomed with homework, and might not 100% participate in a few activities. If they are aware, then they cannot bug you about doing something because they know you are busy. Explaining to them about your schoolwork will show an awesome amount of responsibility, and they will more than happy not bother you... but there are a few exceptions to this rule unfortunately. It might not work.

4. Ask the teacher if the class can get a head start on their assignments if they agree to try to attend school on the last day before winter break. Some Parents use the last day to travel because of the holiday traffic, but you have no control over that, but for others, some students stay home or just roam around the halls when they could use this valuable time to extend their winter break. Trust me, this works because most teachers don't really want to do anything on the last day.

Happy Holidays and Good Luck!

Maidens Avatar Update Preview 12/16/10

Okay,

I just finished the first stage of the update and I am getting ready to code them in the game. I have some Christmas items and a little more base colors than before (some more stuff, but I don't want to spoil the surprise). So far it will have over 30+ items added. Let me know if you like them or have some more ideas that you would like me to create for the game. Also, if you would like, you can email me at dreammaidensmail@gmail.com your avatar and I'll place it on a page on the website. Here are a few that I did:

Bad Attitudes

Remember in school when other classmates would interrupt the class with fussing out the teachers or fighting other classmates? Do you know why they do it?

When I was in school I saw this a lot. I thought they always had bad attitudes and these were the people I would stay away from because I didn't understand why they would yell and argue so much about nothing. Even now I try to stay away from those type of people. I had no idea why they would disrupt the class. It would make time in the classroom faster because the teacher would teach less due to trying to discipline the "troublemaker" but then the teacher would take out their frustration with the whole entire class. There were many times in Junior High where my whole entire class would have lunch detention because of a couple of people.

I was always seen as the "goody two shoes", the girl who did their work, listened to their teachers and kept quiet, and people with the bad attitudes made fun of me. They made me cry and caused me to think some very unhappy thoughts, but now I realize why they do those things. It is for attention. If the teacher and the class ignored them, they would have calmed down. When you do any means necessary to get attention because lack of in the home, it becomes a problem for everyone. Most are brought up that yelling and making yourself known is commonplace, but that doesn't mean that people should continue using this path of communication if it has so many negative results to everyone else. It sounds pretty selfish if you ask me.

If you are the type that loves attention by screaming and yelling, I would like to know what it does for you when you have a bad attitude? Does the problem you carry get solved by your actions? Do you care about finding a solution to your problem, or is it that the fact that you have this problem is what motivates you to do it even more?

If you are on the receiving end of people with bad attitudes, how do you cope with their actions? Does it make you feel uncomfortable with how they communicate? If so, have you told them that you do not like it?

Just imagine how they become when they reach adulthood. It never goes away, so I think it is very important to find the causes and solutions so that teachers can do their job. Teachers have to go home at night upset that they have to come back to children that show off because of problems in the home. So if you have a bad attitude, think about how others feel when you lose your cool, because dispersing your anger only makes matters worse. Find another way or you'll end up keeping that same bad attitude all through life!

Christmas is Almost Here!

Even though the holidays are coming very soon it is good to be in great cheer before it comes! If you haven't already, give your parents your Christmas list. They may not get everything on the list that you want, but they will do their very best to make you happy. Don't forget to give them something as well. Parents don't expect much, but anything you give them, whether it is a gift or just simply a hug and kiss is good enough. They may not show it sometimes, it may even get you upset, but parents are also children too :) They need love and attention just like you do.

Are you in the Christmas spirit yet?

If not, its alright, but doing Christmas events like Christmas cards, wrapping gifts, decorating the christmas tree, watching Christmas shows and movies can help. Even playing our Christmas games like Christmas Tree Decorator and Candycane Designer can get you into the mood.

Well I hope that I gave you some ideas. I'll go back to working on the Maidens Avatar Creator update ^_^
